Schmidt Dhonau Funeral Home was founded in Reading, Ohio in 1932 by Andrew J. Schmidt. He began the business on Walnut Street , later moving it to 8633 Reading Road. The Reading Road building later went through three major renovations.

In 1959, Schmidt purchased the property at 10980 Reading Road in Sharonville. In 1965, a large addition to the north side of the building was added.
